ADELI Suits

The ADELI suit, originally designed for the Russian space program, offered cosmonauts (in a weightless setting for extended periods) the “compression resistance” their bodies needed to preserve muscle tone.

Allternative Gym’s founder, Angie Gomez, trained for six weeks under one of the Russian doctors who developed the ADELI suit.

The suits, composed of bungee-like bands, help put a body (one with limited motor control) into proper alignment. With a cerebral palsy patient, for instance, the muscles don’t know how to work. By performing precise and intensive movements, we “retrain” the brain to build new pathways. Repetition builds strength along with correct patterns of muscle movement.

Only a handful of facilities in the world have these suits and Allternative Gym is one of them! 

Universal Exercise Unit (The Cage)

The Cage features bungee cords attached to the sides and then fixed to the waist. By providing support and balance to user, it allows them to practice exercises that would otherwise be difficult or impossible. As mentioned, though The Cage has typically been used only with children, at Allternative Gym, it’s available to anyone of any age.
